On Mondays I have yoga from 4:30- 6 and Young Urban Zen at 7:30. That means I only have about an hour to come home, change out of yoga clothes and into regular clothes, unpack my bag, make dinner, take the garbage out to the street, and head off to Young Urban Zen. I, of course, try to rush this. I try to do as many things at once as I can. I even try to time taking the garbage out with when I eat my banana so that I won't have to make an extra trip to the compost bin!
Last Monday, I did just this. I put the water on the stove to boil to make pasta. While I was waiting for it to boil, I washed my tupperware from lunch. Then I tried to think of what else I could do to save time. I decided to eat my tangerine. About half way through peeling it, the water boiled. So then I put down my half peeled tangerine and went to deal with the boiling water. I put in the pasta but had to wait a bit before stirring it. I considered going back to the tangerine to finish peeling it and then I laughed at myself. I had a half- peeled tangerine and a partly boiled container of pasta. Nothing was actually getting done, I wasn't really involved in either of them, and I can't imagine that any of this was going to somehow get me to Young Urban Zen any earlier or later than I needed to be there, especially since there isn't really a time that you need to be there- no one's going to kick me out for being late.
So, I left the tangerine and just waited, at the pasta pot, for the pasta to rise and I stirred it and it was fine. Then I peeled the rest of my tangerine and ate it. Then I ate my second tangerine. Then I checked the pasta, waited a bit longer until it was done, and then ate my dinner.
I'm sure I'll do all this again the next time the water boils but it was still pretty funny.
